Winner – Outstanding Visitor Experience

2023-05-11T20:55:48+10:00

What a huge honour tonight to win the "Outstanding Visitor Experience" award at the 2023 Snowy Monaro Business Awards. This is such a privilege for our organisation and a massive reward for all the volunteers and supporters that have helped us get to where we are today. It's difficult to explain how many hours and private resources are invested into developing and maintaining an attraction like this but it is absolutely worth it when we receive recognition like this. Thank you to Transport for NSW and Transport Heritage NSW for their continued support of heritage railway in NSW. And [...]

Thank You Future Generation

2023-05-03T17:32:45+10:00

A huge shout out to Future Generation today for assisting our team with the relocation of our shed frame from the rear of the Railway Institute Building, to it's new home in our Perway Depot. The size and weight of the frame was beyond our team and our machinery, so we reached out to Future Generation for some assistance and they were more than happy to help out. The shed will now be re-assembled in the Perway Depot, and will become our new flammable liquid store. This will also allow us to move forward with the final stages of the [...]

We are excited to announce that Cooma Monaro Railway has been awarded a grant of $37,800 from the NSW Government through Transport Heritage NSW for the restoration of NSW Railways MBC22959, a timber bodied refrigerated bogie box van, and L759, a four-wheel riveted oil tanker. Snowy Junction

2023-05-02T17:33:40+10:00

After clearing south of Cooma Station, our vegetation control team have turned their attention to Snowy Junction. The team have begun clearing the precinct around the Snowy Junction platform before they move on to the Railway corridor and make their way back south to Cooma Station. Located approximately 3.5km north of Cooma Station, Snowy Junction was the site where the former Snowy Mountains Authority sidings joined left the main line for the SMA yard across what is now Polo Flat. Snowy Junction consisted of a Signal Box, passing loop and siding that crossed the road to a second passing loop [...]

Clearing the way

2023-05-02T17:36:01+10:00

With the station and yard back under control, we've turned our attention back to the railway corridor where our volunteers have been busy on the southern approach to Cooma station. They've done an amazing job clearing the vegetation and removing the build-up of debris. Once again, Caelan has been relentless as he continues to plough through some substantial growth, and the team have done a great job following up with preventative weed spraying to ensure that the railway corridor remains clear. And moving forward, we'll need it to stay clear. A very exciting announcement on that one coming soon 😉 [...]

Progress Update – Cooma Yard

2023-05-02T17:18:58+10:00

It's been a big few weeks for our grounds maintenance team, who have been working hard on vegetation control to get the yard and railway corridor cleared after months of sun and rain. Its great to see the whole yard cleared, although, it does highlight the sleepers that our favourite CMR "Apprentices" will need to replace over the coming months. 😅 A big shout out to Caelen who has been an absolute machine on the brush cutter over the past few weeks!
