The equipment was putting up a fight this week but the first section of track restoration from the loco shed has been completed with the track re-gauged and new sleepers screwed into place.

Work is now progressing south towards the turntable where old sleepers (or the hint of where sleepers might have been) have been removed and a combination of over 60 second-hand sleepers and recycled transoms have been placed on to the track, ready to be installed over the coming weeks.

Having access to machinery has been a huge help in this process as we’re able to quickly move heavy materials around the yard and into place, allowing our volunteers to focus their efforts on getting the track back in place. Thank you to our members who have helped to make this possible.

One thing that is very important to us is ensuring that heritage railway in the Monaro is in great hands now and well into the future, so it’s always great to see our younger members getting hands-on experience in all aspects of railway maintenance and learning new skills, under the expert guidance of our experienced volunteers.

As we complete more and more sleeper restoration around the yard, we are quickly depleting our reserve of new sleepers. If you would like to support our track restoration efforts but can’t help us on the ground, contributing to our sleeper fund is a great way to help ensure that our team have the resources they need to continue this great work.
