How time flies! Next week will be 6 months since our museum opened last December, and what an exciting 6 months it has been, with the arrival of Steam Locomotive 3203 and winning the award for Outstanding Visitor Experience at the recent Snowy Monaro Business Awards.

Over the past few months, our volunteers have been working on a number of projects that will expand the current museum experience and allow visitors to get up close to some of our heritage rolling stock. One of these projects is the installation of access pathways, linking the Station Platform with other sections of the precinct, including

– Goods Shed Platform – for access to Locomotive 3203
– Loco Shed – for access to our CPH Railmotors and Trailer Car
– Railway Institute Building and Tennis Courts

The Grounds and Building team have been landscaping and mulching the surrounding areas, ready for gardens to be planted, along with decorative rustic railway parts. The path is being constructed with recycled material that has been recovered from former pathways around the precinct.

To ensure our visitors remain safe, a fence is also being installed along the top of the new retaining wall between the former oil siding and the Tennis Courts.

The team have done a great job removing decades of dead plants, weeds and rubbish, and the whole area is looking amazing. We’ve still got a lot of work to do but we look forward to welcoming visitors to the wider precinct and sharing more of our wonderful railway history.
